President Ramkalawan Marks Bahá’í Naw-Rúz and Zoroastrian Nowruz

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has extended greetings to the Bahá’í community in Seychelles and around the world on the occasion of Bahá’í Naw-Rúz, and to the Zoroastrian community on the occasion of Nowruz. In a message issued yesterday, the President noted that Naw-Rúz, which falls on the spring equinox, marks the beginning of the Bahá’í new year and is a time of renewal, reflection, and hope. The day is also an opportunity to celebrate the values of unity, peace, and solidarity that the Bahá’í faith upholds.

President Ramkalawan also conveyed his best wishes to the Zoroastrian community in Seychelles and abroad on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian new year, which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years. He noted that the day is a time for communities to come together, share messages of peace, and renew commitments to building a more inclusive and harmonious society. The President emphasised the importance of mutual respect and understanding between different faiths and cultures in Seychelles.

The Bahá’í community in Seychelles has grown steadily over the years, with the faith’s principles of unity of God, unity of religion, and unity of humanity resonating with many Seychellois. The Zoroastrian community, though small, is also recognised as part of the country’s religious diversity. Both Naw-Rúz and Nowruz coincide with the spring equinox, marking the symbolic renewal of life and the triumph of light over darkness, themes that are universal across cultures and faiths. The President wished both communities a joyful and blessed celebration.
