Kevin Bistoquet Appointed as New Chief Executive of National Bureau of Statistics

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Office of the President has announced the appointment of Kevin Bistoquet as the new chief executive of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Mr Bistoquet took up the post on Friday, succeeding the outgoing chief executive Li Fa Cheung Kai Suet, who is moving on after several years leading the bureau.

Mr Bistoquet holds a Master of Science in Official Statistics from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and completed the Seychelles Executive Leadership Programme at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government in the United Arab Emirates in 2017. He began his career in 1992 as a mathematics teacher at secondary level and joined the National Bureau of Statistics in 1996 as a statistician. He was promoted to senior statistician in 2017 and to principal statistician in 2018. In 2016, he joined the Statistics Centre in Abu Dhabi as an expert in statistical portfolio planning.

His appointment brings extensive technical training and a rare combination of in-country service and overseas experience to one of the government’s most data-sensitive positions. The NBS is the central authority for the collection, analysis and publication of official statistics, and its outputs underpin national planning, fiscal policy and Seychelles’ reporting obligations to international bodies such as the African Union and the United Nations. The bureau also plays a central role in producing the consumer price index, labour force surveys, population census data and tourism arrivals figures.
