President Ramkalawan Inspects Airport Facilities and Reviews Security Operations

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan visited the facilities of the Seychelles International Airport at Pointe Larue yesterday where he met with the heads of different entities and their employees. He was accompanied by Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Transport Minister Antony Derjacques, Internal Affairs Minister Errol Fonseka, and chief executive of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) Garry Albert. The visit started at the cargo area, followed by the arrival and departure lounges.

The Head of State then chaired a meeting with the entities’ representatives, including the Seychelles Revenue Commission, Seychelles Police, Customs and Immigration. The discussion focused on ongoing projects and future developments aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. In an interview with the media, President Ramkalawan highlighted the airport’s strengths and areas requiring improvements. One of the key challenges identified was the cargo area, which requires immediate improvements such as the introduction of a new scanner to improve security and efficiency. Additionally, there is a need for a sorting centre where all parcels entering the country can be displayed and sorted within a limited timeframe.

President Ramkalawan praised the existing Travizory System, which enhances security by ensuring proper monitoring of individuals entering the country. He provided an example of how the system recently prevented an individual from attempting to enter the country using a fraudulent passport. ‘Airport is a place which involves the security element. We cannot come to the airport to do whatever we want. There are rules and these must be observed,’ stated President Ramkalawan, who also commended the good collaboration that exists among different agencies ensuring airport security.
