National Assembly to Swear In Two New Members Tomorrow

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The National Assembly is set to welcome two new members of the 7th cohort tomorrow, Thursday 27 February, during the opening ceremony of the Assembly. Valdana Sultan and Gerard Bijoux will be sworn in as new proportionately elected members for Linyon Demokratik Seselwa, replacing Hon. Flory Larue and Hon. Naddy Zialor.

The swearing-in will be carried out in accordance with Article 81 of the Constitution, which prescribes that a member may cease to be a member of the National Assembly and that the seat occupied by that person shall become vacant, with the political party nominating another person to occupy the seat by informing the Speaker in writing. A third new member of the 7th cohort, Cecile Larsen, will also be sworn in tomorrow, replacing Hon. Rachel Spiro as a new proportionately elected member for United Seychelles.

The official biographies and photographs of the incoming members will be disseminated in due course, according to a press release from the National Assembly secretariat. The changes come against the backdrop of ongoing political reshuffling in both Linyon Demokratik Seselwa and United Seychelles, with the two parties holding the majority of the proportionately elected seats in the Assembly. The arrival of the three new members will bring the 7th cohort closer to its full complement of elected representatives.
