President Ramkalawan Conducts Working Visit to Government Agencies on Praslin

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan conducted a working visit to several key government agencies on Praslin on Friday, accompanied by Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Minister for Health Peggy Vidot, Minister for Investment Devika Vidot, Minister for Agriculture Flavien Joubert, and key officials. The visit was part of the regular inspections he carries out across all government departments to address pertinent issues that have come to his attention.

Speaking about the aim of his visit, the head of state said there had been complaints about the services in government agencies on Praslin, and there was a need to conduct the visit with relevant ministers and officials so that these issues could be addressed and important decisions taken. The delegation’s first stop was at the agricultural store at Amitie, where procurement procedures were identified as one of the main issues. The President noted that procurement procedures for agriculture differ from other sectors.

The delegation then visited the Seychelles Revenue Commission and the Seychelles Licensing Authority, where issues relating to the issuing of licences and the change of use process were discussed. A decision was taken to have a new way forward: every two weeks, all relevant agencies will meet with SLA in Praslin to sort out outstanding cases. The delegation also visited the Agency for Social Protection offices and the Immigration and Civil Status department, where the President announced that both offices will move into a more spacious area on the ground floor of the Pension Fund Complex. The visit concluded at the Baie Sainte Anne Hospital, where discussions focused on the frequency of specialist visits and the number of patients attended to.
