VICTORIA, Seychelles — Lovers gathered at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) on Friday night for the ‘Someone Loves You, Honey’ concert by British-Jamaican reggae singer June Lodge, in a Valentine’s Day bill that also featured the Lucky Dube Band organised by Mongy Imports. The show was opened by local singer Patrick Victor, who performed ‘Mon pe esper ou’, ‘Lalimer fer e ou’ and ‘Shila’.
Additional performers included Elijah, Michelle Marengo and Thomas Knowles, with further acts from Juliah, Keartsea and Auspitious. Ms Lodge captivated the audience with a mix of her own hits and classic lovers’ rock songs by legendary artists, and also performed her latest single ‘Private Party’, which is currently at number four on the reggae charts in Jamaica. ‘I think the turnout was really amazing, the place was packed and we could not even see a blade of grass when we were on stage,’ said TK Dube, son of the late Lucky Dube and member of the Lucky Dube Band.
One of the organisers, Graham Moncherry, said the show was impressive and that ticket sales had pointed to a strong turn-out. The Lucky Dube Band, which is built around the late South African reggae icon’s repertoire, was making one of its regular Indian Ocean stops in Victoria. The Valentine’s night performance marked one of the larger reggae events staged at the ICCS in recent years, and organisers said they were open to bringing the band back later in 2025.
