Ramkalawan to Deliver State-of-the-Nation Address on February 27

VICTORIA, Seychelles — In accordance with Article 65 (a) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, will deliver his State-of-the-Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Following parliamentary procedures, the official opening ceremony of the National Assembly by the Speaker, Hon. Roger Mancienne, is scheduled to be held on the same date.

The address is the most significant set-piece of the country’s political calendar and will set out the administration’s priorities for the year ahead. It will be delivered in the National Assembly building in Victoria, with the event broadcast live by the national broadcaster. The President’s speech comes at a time when the government is under renewed pressure over the cost of living, delays in infrastructure projects and a number of unfinished public-sector reforms that were pledged at the start of the current term.

The address will be the first SONA of the calendar year and will precede a budget cycle in which the Ministry of Finance will set out updated revenue and expenditure projections. The Seychelles Times will publish a full report and analysis of the address in the days following the speech. Members of the public who wish to attend may apply for tickets through the National Assembly secretariat.
