VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Institute of Arts and Design (SIAD) on Friday opened its annual lecturers’ exhibition at the Carrefour des Arts, Victoria, with a new publication honouring the institution’s former heads and directors. The Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin, officially launched the exhibition and the accompanying book, titled ‘Honouring the Past, Redefining the Future’.
The exhibition showcases the work of 15 lecturers across textiles, graphics and painting, with each piece reflecting tradition, innovation and personal storytelling. The publication traces the journeys and leadership of past heads and directors whose work has shaped SIAD over the past 40 years, beginning with the school’s first principal, artist Peter Pierre-Louis, on January 24, 1983. Marie-Mai Marie, a graphic design instructor with 25 years at the institution, said being part of the exhibition is a form of motivation for her students.
SIAD director Christine Chetty-Payet said the exhibition is a testament to the passion, dedication and creativity that staff bring to their work with learners every day. Copies of the publication have been presented to various institutions and will be made available at the Seychelles National Library and other learning institutions.
