VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) is in Seychelles on a post-election review mission, taking place from February 3 to 8, 2025. The mission aims to assess Seychelles’ adherence to democratic principles following the 2015/2016 and 2020 elections.
The SEAC’s visit is part of its mandate under Article 7.3 of the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines (2015), which requires post-election reviews in member states. These reviews promote electoral integrity, good governance, peace and stability in the post-election period.
The delegation includes members of the council and the SADC Secretariat, who will hold meetings with the Electoral Commission, political parties, civil society organisations, the media, security agencies and other electoral stakeholders. The mission will produce a report with recommendations for improving the conduct of future elections in Seychelles, in line with the country’s commitments under the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
