Ombudsman Georges Robert Presents 2024 Annual Report to President Ramkalawan

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Office of the Ombudsman yesterday presented its Annual Report for the year 2024 to President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House. It was the current Ombudsman, Georges Robert, who officially presented the yearly report, titled “Ombudsman, a Bridge to Accountability, Transparency and Good Governance”, to the President.

Mr Robert, who took charge of the office in May 2024, said that the 2024 report, as compared to the previous one, is mainly focused on restructuring and developing the office into the institution, as recommended in the Constitution, to serve as a bridge between the people and the government. He noted that a good amount of time was spent last year in developing the administrative and financial structures, which was required for the daily running of the office.

He added that it also included the drafting of comprehensive procedures to exercise its powers under Schedule 8 of the Constitution, same as for the judges of the Supreme Court, in relation to investigation. He further noted that one of the part of the investigative procedures to be dealt with is alternative dispute resolution between the government and complainants. “A lot of the complaints have been processed and now we will be putting them through our processes and hopefully we will get some results,” he said.
