Justice Samia Andre Elected to Comesa Court of Justice for Five-Year Term

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Judiciary of Seychelles has announced that Honourable Justice Samia Andre, a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles, has been elected as a Judge of the First Instance Division of the Comesa (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) Court of Justice. Her election took place during the 27th Meeting of Comesa Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General on November 21, 2024, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Justice Andre’s appointment is a moment of great pride for Seychelles, reflecting her distinguished legal career and unwavering dedication to justice. She will assume her role on June 9, 2025, for a five-year term, renewable once, in accordance with the Comesa Treaty. A seasoned legal professional, she has over two decades of experience in Seychelles’ judicial system, having served as a State Counsel, Registrar General, Senior Magistrate, Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court, and most recently, as a Justice of Appeal.

Her extensive academic background includes a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours from the University of Mauritius, a Master of Laws (LLM) specialising in Family Law from the University of London, and ongoing PhD studies at the University of Cape Town. She has also undertaken specialised training in judicial bench skills, mediation at the National Judicial College in Nevada, USA, and participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program on Alternative Dispute Resolution in Washington D.C. The Judiciary extends its heartfelt congratulations to Justice Andre on this prestigious achievement.
