VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Office of the President has taken the decision to withdraw the appointment of Sabry Khan as director general of the Seychelles Intelligence Service, following a statement by the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Hon. Bernard Georges, who questioned the regularity of the appointment.
In a press communique issued yesterday, the Office of the President said it wished to clarify that the appointment process was initiated and taken in accordance with the provisions of the law. The process commenced on December 5, 2025, following the conclusion of the tenure of the former director general.
The communique explained that the Defence and Security Committee of the National Assembly had not yet been constituted at the time the appointment process was initiated. The committee was subsequently established on December 11, 2025, following the swearing-in of its members. Given the critical role of the service, the office said it considered imperative to act promptly to ensure continuity of leadership.
Notwithstanding the urgency, and in keeping with the President’s strong commitment to transparency, constitutional governance, and parliamentary oversight, the Office of the President has temporarily withdrawn the appointment. The nomination has now been formally submitted to the National Assembly, where consultation with the Defence and Security Committee will take place, in accordance with both the letter and spirit of the law.
