Agricultural Fair Attracts Strong Crowd at Independence Avenue

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Residents and visitors who passed through the Independence Avenue on Sunday were able to buy a wide variety of agricultural products from local farmers and staff of the Department of Agriculture. Vendors lined both sides of the lane with vegetables, fruit, root crops, and a range of plant and flower varieties. Items on offer included poultry, jam, cheese, chips, coconut nougat, and small snacks and fresh juices, which were also available for buyers.

Those who came prepared with bags, containers, and animal feed were able to take advantage of the wide selection. The agricultural fair was organised by the Department of Agriculture together with the Mayor’s Office, and was held to commemorate World Food Day, which was celebrated on October 16. The event was originally scheduled to take place on October 26, but due to the Kreol Festival activities, it was moved to Sunday, November 30.

Despite the rain disrupting the atmosphere a little, the fair attracted a good number of people throughout the day. Organisers said the event continues to provide a useful platform for local farmers and small producers to showcase their products, while also giving the public access to fresh, locally grown food. The Department of Agriculture thanked all those who supported the fair and indicated that similar events will be considered in the future.
