VICTORIA, Seychelles — Operators in the tourism industry have been trained in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, thanks to a series of training sessions aimed at enhancing safety and preparedness within the sector. The sessions on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue were organised by the tourism department through its human resource development section.
Designed to empower tourism workers with vital life-saving skills and to improve overall emergency response in the workplace, the initiative responds to strong industry demand and was delivered free of charge by JVSL Medic & Services. Those who took part were mainly staff from small establishments and licensed tour guides. After the first series of sessions on Mahé came to a close, the tourism department presented certificates to participants in a ceremony held at Blue Hill Seychelles on Wednesday.
In her remarks, principal secretary for tourism Sherin Francis said the department’s aim is to provide this kind of training to operators within the sector. ‘In the event of an incident, it may take time for professional medical help to arrive, so this is why we felt it was important to equip our people in the tourism sector with the necessary skills to respond quickly and even save lives if needed. It also reflects their commitment to the industry and the care they provide to their clients,’ she said. The principal secretary also called for more industry players to take advantage of the free training.
