VICTORIA, Seychelles Seychelles has taken another step toward strengthening climate resilience and sustainable development through a collaborative workshop titled Unlocking Investment for Climate-Smart Agriculture and Nature-Based Solutions in Seychelles.
The one-day workshop held yesterday at the Savoy Seychelles Resort and Spa in Beau Vallon was organised under the NDC Partnership together with the International Institute for Sustainable Development and the Government of Seychelles. The event brought together key stakeholders to explore innovative financing opportunities for climate adaptation and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.
Climate-smart agriculture integrates sustainable practices that increase productivity while making farming systems more resilient to climate change impacts. For Seychelles, where land and freshwater resources are limited, such approaches are essential for food security and environmental protection.
Nature-based solutions involve working with natural ecosystems to address societal challenges including climate change, water security and disaster risk reduction. These approaches can enhance biodiversity while providing cost-effective climate adaptation benefits for island nations.
The workshop addressed financing mechanisms, institutional coordination and policy frameworks necessary to scale up climate-smart and nature-based interventions across Seychelles agricultural sector. Participants examined successful models from other small island developing states and discussed adaptation to local conditions.
The initiative aligns with Seychelles Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement and contributes to national commitments for climate action. By attracting investment in sustainable agriculture, the country aims to reduce dependency on food imports while protecting its fragile ecosystems.
