Mahé Shipping Donates R75,000 to Support Pet Haven Seychelles Animal Shelter

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Mahé Shipping company has donated R75,000 to Pet Haven Seychelles, a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and caring for stray and abandoned animals across the country, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare and community support. The Mahé Shipping Pet Haven donation was presented at a ceremony attended by company representatives and shelter staff.

Speaking at the presentation, Julya Barbier, Senior Shipping Data Entry Officer at Mahé Shipping, underscored the deeper significance of the shelter’s work, noting that it goes far beyond animal care and encompasses compassion, responsibility, and giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. She reaffirmed that the donation is part of a sustained relationship with the shelter, not a one-time gesture.

For Pet Haven Seychelles, the donation comes at a crucial time. Founder Myriam Hoareau expressed deep gratitude, noting that the funds will help improve facilities and expand operations. The shelter currently has over 300 dogs and needs to build more kennels and a small clinic where veterinarians can treat animals. Pet Haven frequently intervenes in difficult rescue situations with help from volunteers, and collaboration with the National Biosecurity Agency plays a key role in providing second chances for animals.

Jessica Larue, chief executive of Mahé Shipping, emphasised that the donation aligns with the company’s CSR strategy for 2026, which focuses on animal welfare, humanitarian aid, education, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability. She stressed the importance of consistency in making a lasting impact, noting that it is not just about making donations but finding ways to support the community in more ways than one.

Representatives from each department of Mahé Shipping participated in the programme, underscoring the company’s collective commitment to animal welfare. To manage the growing animal population, the shelter has implemented sterilisation programmes, with NBA assistance sterilising dogs before they are transferred.

Mahé Shipping’s R75,000 donation to Pet Haven strengthens animal welfare efforts across Seychelles.
