VICTORIA, Seychelles — Grand Anse Mahé primary school has commemorated World Autism Awareness Day with a series of engaging activities designed to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion among its pupils, reinforcing this year’s theme: ‘Autism and Humanity — Every Life Has Value’. The Grand Anse autism awareness programme began with a special general assembly where selected classes delivered presentations through poems, short talks, and role plays highlighting empathy, respect, and the importance of embracing differences.
Following the assembly, pupils participated in interactive learning sessions organised by the school team, encouraging collaboration, kindness, and a deeper appreciation of each individual’s unique strengths. Special Educational Needs Coordinator Bella Pool praised the initiative, noting the event was very well received by both pupils and staff, with strong participation and positive attitudes displayed by students, invited guests, and parents toward inclusion.
Many participants demonstrated a growing understanding of how small acts of support and empathy can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others. The celebration forms part of the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and empowered to succeed.
World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2, aims to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder and promote the rights and well-being of individuals with autism. Schools across Seychelles have increasingly embraced awareness initiatives as part of broader efforts to build inclusive communities.
The Grand Anse Mahé primary school’s programme demonstrates the growing recognition of inclusive education practices in Seychelles, where schools are working to create environments that accommodate diverse learning needs and celebrate the unique contributions of every student.
