VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Patrick Herminie has presented the Instruments of Appointment to Alain St Ange following his approval by the National Assembly as Ambassador-at-large, appointing the seasoned tourism professional to represent Seychelles in countries where the nation does not currently have a resident ambassador. The ceremony took place at State House, with Mr St Ange accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora Barry Faure.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr St Ange said the occasion provided an opportunity to discuss with the President how he could best serve the country, with his role focusing on supporting development and contributing to national progress. Discussions with President Herminie included the possibility of representing Seychelles in countries where the nation does not currently have a resident ambassador, increasing the country’s visibility on the international stage.
Tourism, one of Seychelles’ key economic pillars, featured prominently in the discussions. Mr St Ange said he intends to work closely with relevant authorities to support the sector, particularly at a time when global challenges continue to affect international travel. He noted that the Middle East conflict has blocked aviation from tourism source markets that go through Dubai and Qatar before coming to Seychelles, stressing the need for innovation.
Mr St Ange brings decades of experience in tourism and international promotion to the role. He previously served as Seychelles’ Minister for Tourism and Culture, and later as Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine between 2012 and 2016. During his time in government, he was widely recognised for helping raise Seychelles’ international profile as a travel destination.
Over the years he has also played a leading role in several regional and international tourism initiatives, including the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands organisation and global tourism networks, where he promoted cooperation and visibility for island destinations. His office will remain open to ministers who feel he can be of help, providing ideas on how the country can become more innovative and successful.
Alain St Ange’s appointment as Ambassador-at-large strengthens Seychelles’ diplomatic and tourism promotion capacity.
