Seychelles has taken a decisive step toward shaping the future of its lucrative cruise tourism sector, with stakeholders gathering yesterday at the Savoy Resort & Spa for a critical one-day validation workshop of the Seychelles Cruise Tourism Strategy (2026-2030). The session, organised by the tourism department, marks the culmination of extensive consultations and aims to finalise a roadmap for sustainable development, economic value retention, and positive community impact over the next five years. Attendees worked to validate strategic pillars, policy options, and priority actions, ensuring the final plan reflects industry realities, community expectations, and robust evidence-based analysis.
The strategy represents a pivotal shift from volume-based growth to a focused model emphasising sustainability and enhanced sector management. Officials underscored the need to balance economic gains from increasing passenger numbers with environmental protection and meaningful benefits for local communities. A photograph accompanying the report showed visitors receiving on-the-ground support from a local Destination Management Company representative upon disembarking, highlighting the existing infrastructure and the strategy’s focus on improving the passenger experience. The finalised plan, expected soon, will align national priorities to position Seychelles as a premier, responsible cruise destination in the Indian Ocean, seeking to maximise revenue while safeguarding the archipelago’s pristine natural assets for future generations.
