Anglican Church in Seychelles Mourns Father Willy Prosper William

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Anglican Church in Seychelles is mourning Reverend Willy Prosper William who passed away on April 7, 2026, after a lifetime of faithful service spanning nearly two decades as an ordained minister and more than 45 years of public service. Father Willy, affectionately known as Per Willy, served several congregations in the diocese, most recently holding responsibility for the Cure of Soul of the congregation at St Philip’s Chapel in La Misère.

In a message announcing his passing, Bishop Danny Elizabeth said the Anglican diocese gave thanks to God for his unwavering commitment and obedient ministry to serve the Lord. Born on September 14, 1955, Father Willy grew up in Moosa Lane, Mahe, as the eldest among seven siblings. He attended St Paul’s Boys School and later worked at the Public Works Department from age 13 to support his younger siblings.

At the age of 19, he felt the call of God while attending Bible Studies at Far East Broadcasting Association. He took part actively in various positions in the church, including in the choir and as a server at St Paul’s Cathedral. In 1986, he proceeded to follow theological training at St Philip’s College at La Misère, where he studied Church History, Doctrine, Theology, Pastoral Counselling and Evangelism.

On October 30, 2004, Father Willy was ordained a Deacon and continued serving God in different churches for nearly 20 years. During this time, he served at St John in Glacis, St George in Maldive, St Mary in Anse Des Genets, St Lucy in Anse Boileau, Holy Saviour in Anse Royale, St Luke in Bel Ombre, St Philip’s Chapel in La Misère, and at St Paul’s Cathedral. He also worked for 45 years at the Public Service Secretariat.

His funeral will take place on Saturday April 11, 2026 at 10am at St Paul’s Cathedral. The Anglican Church has called for prayers for his family, friends, and the congregations he served during his long and dedicated ministry.
