The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, attended the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as Guest of Honour at the invitation of the Prime Minister, Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
The celebrations were held at the Champ de Mars racecourse, where President Herminie joined the Mauritian leadership, dignitaries and members of the public to mark the 58th anniversary of Mauritius’ Independence and the 34th anniversary of the Republic, commemorated on 12th March.
The ceremony commenced with the raising of the Mauritian national flag, symbolising the country’s sovereignty, unity and national pride. This was followed by the Grand National Parade featuring impressive displays by Mauritian and international military forces, including the participation of a contingent from the Seychelles Defence Forces, as well as vibrant artistic performances celebrating the rich cultural heritage, diversity and resilience of the Mauritian nation.
On this auspicious occasion, President Herminie conveyed his warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Mauritius, extending best wishes for continued peace, prosperity and progress.
President Herminie is undertaking a State Visit to Mauritius during which the two countries have reaffirmed their strong and longstanding partnership, reflecting the deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties that unite the two Indian Ocean island nations.
