VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Trading Company has donated toys and cleaning supplies to the School for the Exceptional Child as part of activities marking the company’s 17th anniversary of service and its ongoing dedication to the school community. The STC 17th anniversary donation was presented during a ceremony attended by the deputy chief executive of STC, David Jean Baptiste, along with officials from the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.
STC said that to honour nearly two decades of growth alongside the Seychellois people, it decided to celebrate this journey by giving back to one of the community’s most compassionate institutions. In his address, Mr Jean Baptiste expressed gratitude to the school for its hospitality and ongoing collaboration, noting that STC’s motto of valuing trust extends to partners as well. He emphasised that for children, play transcends mere leisure, serving as a vital avenue for communication, cognitive development, emotional regulation, and motor skills enhancement.
The school’s head teacher, Marie May Leon, said the decision by STC to commemorate this anniversary through a community initiative specifically through a donation to the school speaks volumes about the company’s values. She noted the gesture comes at a particularly crucial time as the school is currently in the process of establishing a dedicated playroom designed to facilitate structured play, sensory stimulation, therapy-based activities, and social development.
The donation enhances the spirit of unity and care within the school community and reminds learners that they are supported not only by educators and parents but also by the broader community. Ms Leon praised STC’s commitment to ensuring that children who require special care and support remain a priority in community initiatives.
The school expressed its appreciation through a special song performance, while the children also thanked STC staff for their thoughtful gifts. The event highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility in supporting special needs education in Seychelles.
STC’s anniversary donation reinforces corporate commitment to inclusive education in Seychelles.
