Seychelles formally establishes Diplomatic Relations with the Republic of Liberia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Barry Faure, met with H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, on Friday 13 February 2026, and signed the Joint Communiqué to formally establish diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Joint Communiqué states that the two countries agree to establish their diplomatic relations in conformity with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24th April 1963.

The agreement, signed in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation, marks a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the two countries and reflects their shared commitment to promoting peace, sustainable development, economic collaboration, and multilateral engagement.

In remarks delivered at the signing ceremony, the two Ministers reaffirmed their dedication to advancing common interests in areas including tourism and sustainable development. The Liberian Minister thanked Seychelles for voting for it as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and said that Liberia could be a voice for Seychelles and small states.

This took place on the sidelines of the African Union Executive Council.
