Vice President Pillay Represents President Herminie at the 35th African Peer Review Forum during the 39th AU Assembly

Representing President Herminie at the 35th African Peer Review Forum held on the margins of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, Vice President Sebastien Pillay underscored the importance of strengthened continental collaboration, the sharing of best practices, and the advancement of Africa as a unified and competitive global partner. He further emphasised the necessity of robust policies and sound legislative frameworks to unlock greater socio-economic benefits for all African nations.

Speaking on the targeted Peer Review Report on São Tomé and Príncipe, the Vice President said: “In Seychelles, we have worked to ensure that our tourism policies translate into tangible benefits for our citizens, including the promotion and protection of Seychellois-owned businesses. Seychelles stands ready to share its experience and best practices with São Tomé and Príncipe, and we look forward to providing support in the true spirit of African partnership and solidarity. 

The African Peer Review Summit brings together African leaders to exchange best practices, strengthen accountability frameworks, and advance collective political and economic progress for the Continent. 

Seychelles remains firmly committed to the principles of the APRM and values the platform as a vital mechanism for promoting stability, democratic governance, and sustainable prosperity across Africa. 

The Vice President further said: “Seychelles has achieved 60% representation of women at the level of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials. We have elected the first Female Speaker, and we have recently announced the establishment of a consultative body to ensure that young people actively contribute to national policymaking. By this time next year, Seychelles will proudly undergo its peer review, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration with the APRM continental secretariat as we formalize our national structures.”

The APRM is currently headed by Seychelles’ Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre as the chief Executive Officer, and H.E. President Museveni of Uganda as the new Chair.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Ambassador Barry Faure, and Ambassador Conrade Mederic, Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the African Union.
