The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, this morning received a courtesy call from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, on the margins of his State Visit to the Republic of India.
Welcoming President Herminie to Mumbai, India’s financial capital and economic powerhouse, the Chief Minister extended warm greetings on behalf of the Government of India. He congratulated the President on his election in October last year and expressed
appreciation for his decision to choose India for his first State Visit since assuming office. The Chief Minister conveyed his confidence that, under President Herminie’s leadership, Seychelles would continue to progress and achieve greater heights.
President Herminie, in turn, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Chief Minister following the tragic death of his Deputy Chief Minister in January, 2026 as well as the building collapse in Kota the previous night, conveying Seychelles’ solidarity during this time of sorrow.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted India’s strong economic performance and recent achievements, noting that India is now the world’s fourth-largest economy. President Herminie remarked that, since his arrival in India, he has been deeply impressed by the country’s success in business, trade, and investment. He noted that his participation in business engagements in Chennai and Mumbai had provided valuable insights into areas of cooperation, learning, and mutual opportunity across several sectors. The two sides agreed that much more could be done in the field of tourism and the film industry.
The courtesy call reaffirmed the warm and longstanding relations between Seychelles and India, underscored by shared aspirations for economic growth, investment, and people-to-people cooperation.
The meeting was attended, on the Seychelles side, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mr Barry Faure; the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment, Mr Pierre Laporte; the Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Ms Véronique Laporte; the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mrs Amanda Berstein; the High Commissioner of India to Seychelles, Mr Rohit Rathish; and the High Commissioner of Seychelles to India, Mrs Lalatianna Accouche.
