President Herminie Champions Diplomacy at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Patrick Herminie opened Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 with a series of high-level diplomatic engagements that delivered tangible outcomes for Seychelles on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week brought together world leaders to advance global sustainability solutions and climate action.

This matters to ordinary Seychellois because stronger international partnerships directly translate to enhanced opportunities for trade, investment, and technical cooperation. The President’s active participation ensures Seychelles maintains its voice in global climate discourse and attracts renewable energy investment that could lower domestic electricity costs.

The highlight was a bilateral meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, reaffirming historic political ties and committing to revitalise economic cooperation. Discussions focused on creating a structured framework to strengthen trade and investment relations. President Herminie also toured the World Future Energy Summit, engaging with technologies shaping global energy transition.

Seychelles and South Africa share long-standing relations grounded in democratic governance and social justice. Regional cooperation within the Southern African Development Community featured prominently, with President Ramaphosa highlighting Seychelles’ strategic importance in maritime security and the Blue Economy.

The President also engaged with youth leaders at the Youth for Sustainability Hub, hosted the International Renewable Energy Agency director general, and visited the Masdar Pavilion. These engagements position Seychelles for continued technical support in renewable energy transition.

The delegation returns with strengthened bilateral relations and renewed international partnerships.
