President Herminie to Represent Seychelles at ADSW 2026

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Patrick Herminie will attend Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 in the United Arab Emirates this weekend, reinforcing Seychelles’ commitment to global climate action and sustainable development. The trip marks a significant moment for Seychelles-UAE sustainability ties, with President Herminie set to deliver the keynote address at the Blue Forum during the landmark international gathering.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week visit underscores Seychelles’ active participation in high-level international dialogue on climate resilience and the blue economy. As a small island developing state, Seychelles faces acute vulnerabilities to rising sea levels and extreme weather events, making its presence at such forums vital for securing global support and investment in climate adaptation strategies.

President Herminie will be accompanied by a ministerial delegation including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Barry Faure, Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources Marie-May Jeremie, and Minister for Industry and Enterprise Geralda Desaubin. The Blue Forum keynote will promote an integrated approach uniting freshwater, coastal, and marine economies into a single framework, with the aim of strengthening climate resilience while driving sustainable economic growth for island nations.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a globally recognised platform that convenes policymakers, business executives, innovators, and young leaders to confront pressing sustainability challenges. The 2026 edition is being held under the theme ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go’, underscoring the urgent call for coordinated global action to close investment gaps and accelerate system-wide transformation toward a sustainable future.

For Seychelles, participation in events such as ADSW provides a vital opportunity to champion the interests of small island developing states on the world stage. The Blue Economy framework presented by President Herminie is expected to highlight the interconnection between ocean health, community livelihoods, and national economic security — areas of critical concern for an archipelago nation whose wellbeing is intrinsically tied to the health of its surrounding seas.

The Seychellois delegation is expected to return from Abu Dhabi following the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week summit activities.
