VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles karting FIA grants worth over R782,000 mark a historic step forward for motorsport in the country, placing the nation firmly on the African and global motorsport development map. The Seychelles Karting Association has secured three major international development grants from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
The grants represent transformational investment into Seychelles motorsport infrastructure, training, and youth development. The first grant, valued at R325,000, will fund the acquisition of 12 brand-new FIA-approved training and race karts. These karts will significantly expand the association’s youth development programme, allowing more children aged 5 to 17 to access structured motorsport training.
The second grant, worth R372,000, will introduce the FIA marshal train-the-trainer certification programme to Seychelles. This internationally accredited programme will train local marshals, instructors, and safety officials both off-site and on-site, creating Seychelles’ first pool of FIA-certified trainers. The third award, an FIA subsidy grant of R85,000, will enable the acquisition of a professional electronic timing system.
The timing system forms a key piece of national motorsport infrastructure and supports the association’s wider objective of creating a complete motorsport framework for Seychelles. Together, these grants support youth development, official certification, safety governance, competition structure, sustainability, and future international participation, aligning Seychelles with FIA global standards.
The expansion will strengthen Seychelles’ grassroots ladder and directly support preparation for future international participation, including the FIA African Motorsport Games. The association is now calling on motorsport enthusiasts, parents, youth, and volunteers to step forward and become part of what is becoming known as the orange army.
Seychelles karting FIA grants demonstrate that motorsport in Seychelles has entered a new era with unprecedented opportunities for young Seychellois.
