VICTORIA, Seychelles — Anglican Bishop of Seychelles Danny Elizabeth has used his New Year message to call for renewal, faith, and unity as the country prepares to enter 2026. He said the new year is not only the beginning of a calendar cycle but, more importantly, a new day in which God permits the people to breathe afresh his lifegiving spirit.
‘The beginning of a new year is not a human invention. God permits us to start a new year so that the previous year becomes a learning experience. With irony, Joshua presented the alternatives that are offered if the people reject the Lord. It is the choice between worldly power and the divine. As the people decided, Joshua boldly declared, ‘But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD’. What is your decision for 2026?’ he said.
Noting that Seychelles will celebrate 50 years of independence on June 29, 2026, Bishop Elizabeth described the occasion as monumental, calling for the diversity of the society to be celebrated as one nation. He reminded citizens that patriotism is rooted in the belief that everyone is of value to the well-being of society, and that the road to prosperity demands wisdom.
