VICTORIA, Seychelles — Nature Seychelles, through the European Union-funded ‘Wetlands of Hope’ project, on Tuesday donated a DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone to the department of Energy and Climate Affairs, as part of the ongoing collaboration under the project launched in March 2024.
During the event at The Sanctuary in Roche Caiman, the project team also officially handed over the proposed National Wetlands Policy and Action Plan, as well as a Wetlands Management Plan template, which were commissioned and developed this year under the project. The wetland policy was developed with the assistance of a consultant who facilitated two national workshops with around 60 stakeholders and organisations.
Chief executive of Nature Seychelles Nirmal Shah said the project has three objectives: to develop the wetlands policy, present tools needed for mapping and monitoring these wetlands, and to establish a baseline to get more biological information about them. The principal officer for Climate Change Adaptation, Jean-Claude Labrosse, said the management plan template standardises the protocols to manage wetlands and will help hotels that have signed memoranda of understanding to create management plans for the sites they adopted.
