Dr Barry Nourrice Appointed Director of Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Agriculture department, with the approval of the Board of Governance of the Seychelles Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture, has appointed Dr Barry Nourrice as the new director of the institute, marking a professional milestone and a personal homecoming for the former student of the School of Agriculture.

Dr Nourrice holds a PhD and MSc in Soil Science from the University of Aberdeen and a BSc in Agriculture Science from Tamil Nadu Agriculture University in India, specialising in soil science and organic farming. With over 20 years of experience in agricultural research, soil diagnostics, laboratory management, and farmer-support services, he has made significant contributions at both national and international levels. He served as an International Atomic Energy Agency project counterpart, receiving global recognition in 2018.

As director, Dr Nourrice’s vision is to realign the institute’s training and development mandate to meet the evolving needs of the agricultural and horticultural sector. His priorities include strengthening scientific capacity, modernising programmes, and preparing a new generation of skilled agricultural professionals for the country.
