District Emergency Brigades Recognised on International Volunteer Day

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The District Emergency Brigades have been recognised for their dedication and service on International Volunteer Day, celebrated globally to honour the contribution of volunteers to community safety and resilience.

The brigades, made up of trained volunteers across the islands, play a central role in responding to emergencies, including fires, floods, and other incidents. Officials said their work has saved lives and helped protect property in countless situations.

Acknowledging their contribution, authorities said the brigades embody the spirit of solidarity and service that defines Seychelles, and called on more young people to volunteer their time and skills to support community safety initiatives.

The recognition ceremony brought together representatives of the brigades, government officials, and civil society partners to celebrate the impact of volunteerism on national resilience.
