The President of the Republic, Dr. Patrick Herminie accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Veronique Herminie attended the 14th Cohort Graduation Ceremony of the University of Seychelles (Unisey), where 89 students were conferred certificates, diplomas, and degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The ceremony took place at the UniSey Auditorium in Anse Royale.
During the ceremony, nine students who demonstrated exceptional academic performance received the Best Performer Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements. This award underscores UniSey’s commitment to lifelong learning and celebrates the success of top-performing students across the University’s academic programmes. The award recipients were Shamira Bastienne, Jordan Bristol, Nylah Lespoir, Julianna Augustin, Monik Choppy, Phillis Azemia, Lindy Leon, Hansha Naiken, and Melanie Felix, each exemplifying UniSey’s dedication to academic excellence.
In addition, Ms. Monik Choppy was presented with the S4S Colleen Morel Environmental Science Achievement Awardfor her remarkable contribution to environmental studies. She also achieved a first-class grade in all 24 modules of her programme, distinguishing her as one of the most accomplished scholars in the history of the Environmental Science programme at UniSey.
Ms. Shamira Bastienne and Ms. Angelique Reddy received the Dean’s Award for the Faculty of Arts and Social Development, and the Faculty of Business and Sustainable Development, respectively. The award recognises students who have excelled academically, demonstrated perseverance, and actively participated in extracurricular activities.
Vice-Chancellor Ms. Joëlle Perreau congratulated all graduates and commended their hard work and achievements throughout their years of study at the University. She reiterated that these graduates will play an essential role in the country’s national development. Expressing her pride, she noted that their journey at UniSey has enabled them to absorb knowledge, think critically, and develop into competent professionals equipped to address complex challenges.
She highlighted that the year 2025 marked significant milestones for the University, including the expansion of research partnerships, the signing of new project-led modules, deeper outreach to professional centres and local communities, upgrades to systems and expertise in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and increased investment in digital tools that will open new avenues for teaching and learning. She added that in 2026, the University of Seychelles aims to strengthen its focus on research, increase academic publications, enhance national research frameworks, and introduce new Master’s by Research and PhD programmes in additional fields.
On his part, the Chairperson of the Alumni Association, Mr. Dominique Sabino, encouraged the new graduates to join the association, collaborate closely, support one another, and work together on initiatives that benefit both the University and the growing alumni community.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the Minister of Education and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Mr. David Pierre; Principal Secretary Mr. Wallace Cosgrow; members of the Cabinet of Ministers; Ambassadors; the Attorney General, Mr. Vinsent Perera; Members of the National Assembly; Principal Secretaries; partners of the University of Seychelles; and other notable officials, highlighting the importance of this occasion for the country’s educational advancement.
