VICTORIA, Seychelles — In recognition of the International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family hosted a special spa experience for citizens living with disabilities at the Samia Spa centre in Aarti Chambers, Victoria. This year’s theme, ‘Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress’, set the tone for the event.
Welcoming participants were the division’s director general, Rosa Morin, and the director for the Disabled, Marco Gerry. The programme offered foot detox and massage sessions to 12 participants, ranging in age from five years old to senior citizens. Six individuals were treated in the morning, followed by another six in the afternoon. The department collaborated with civil authorities, including the National Association for the Disabled, the Seychelles Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the You and Me Foundation, to ensure fair selection.
Mr Gerry emphasised that the initiative aims to honour resilience, promote physical and emotional well-being, and raise public awareness about the importance of inclusive services. Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the experience. Therese Larose shared her joy at being pampered, while eight-year-old Jariah Charlette said with delight that she had pink toes now and really loved it. The event was accompanied by snacks, refreshments, and a festive photoshoot with the Christmas tree and spa staff.
