VICTORIA, Seychelles — The new Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Hon. Azarel Jolinda Ernesta, has announced that Seychelles will host the 58th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) early next year. She made the announcement while delivering a Vote of Thanks during the official opening of the 58th Plenary Assembly in eThekwini, South Africa, on Sunday.
‘It is my profound honour to stand before you, as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles and incoming host of the 58th SADC Parliamentary Forum Plenary Assembly,’ Hon. Ernesta told the gathering. She thanked the acting President of South Africa, Paul Mashatile, who officially opened the Plenary virtually, and described his presence as a demonstration of the highest level of political support for the Forum’s mission.
Speaking under the Assembly’s theme, ‘The Impact of Climate Change on Women and Youth in the SADC Region and the Role of Parliaments in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation’, the Seychellois Speaker called for unwavering unity and collective purpose, urging parliamentarians from the 15 SADC member states to carry forward the momentum generated during the opening ceremony. She expressed confidence that shared resolve would usher in a spring of renewal and resilience for the region.
