VICTORIA, Seychelles — Victoria came alive last night as a large crowd gathered around the iconic Clock Tower to witness the official lighting of Christmas decorations across the capital. President Patrick Herminie had the honour of switching on the dazzling lights, which cast colourful reflections across the city and ushered in the festive spirit. Illuminations have been installed at key landmarks including the Post Office, the National History Museum, Independence Avenue, Peace Park, the Bicentenary Monument, the Unity Monument, and State House Avenue.
The evening opened with Christmas carols performed by the Seychelles National Choir, Acting Mayor of Victoria Lydia Charlie addressed the crowd, noting that the annual tradition not only creates a joyful atmosphere but also fosters love and unity among Seychellois. She explained that since last year’s decorations arrived late in January, preparations for this season began earlier, allowing for a fresh display. ‘All of our Christmas decorations this year are brand new. I hope our efforts bring joy and the spirit of Christmas into the hearts of our children, in Victoria and across the country,’ Ms Charlie said.
The lighting ceremony was followed by a vibrant Christmas parade. The procession featured the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam with a chariot, the Fire and Rescue Services Agency with a fire truck, the Seychelles Police with vehicles and motorcycles, the Bikers Association, the Seychelles Tamil Mandram with performers, the Moto Sports Association with 40 cars, as well as groups from the National Youth Council, Emergency Crew, All Star, Diamond Dance Class, and the Plaisance primary Boys Choir. Among the spectators were First Lady Veronique Herminie, government ministers, members of the National Assembly and of the diplomatic corps, joining in the celebration of light, unity, and festive cheer.
