VICTORIA, Seychelles — On the occasion of the 54th National Day of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, known as the Eid Al Etihad, the country’s chargé d’affaires in Seychelles, Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi, hosted a reception at the Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa, Beau Vallon, on Friday evening under the theme ‘United’. The event was attended by President Patrick Herminie, First Lady Veronique Herminie, Principal Minister Wallace Cosgrow, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.
In his opening remarks, Mr Alneyadi expounded upon the ‘We the UAE 2031’ — a new vision and national action plan through which the United Arab Emirates will complete its development journey of the next decade, focusing on social, economic, investment, and developmental aspects. Through this vision and the UAE Centennial, the country is outlining a prosperous future based on sustainability, innovation, and human empowerment. He noted that the UAE has signed a number of international agreements and memoranda of understanding to support renewable energy efforts and has implemented national strategies related to hydrogen and energy.
Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Ambassador Barry Faure, reflected on the remarkable progress of the UAE since its formation, noting that the country’s development over the past five decades stands as a testament to the strength of its founding principles. ‘Unity has shown its power to drive transformation and build a prosperous future,’ he stated. Ambassador Faure further praised the deepening partnership between Seychelles and the UAE, established in 1982 and strengthened through mutual respect and shared priorities, citing major UAE-supported initiatives including new phases of the Orchid Estate Housing Project, the West Coast Road improvements, the planned holistic centre in English River, a sports complex in Anse Royale, a cath lab for Seychelles Hospital, and four rehabilitation centres.
