UAE and Seychelles Reaffirm Strategic Partnership on 54th National Day

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles and the United Arab Emirates continue to deepen a partnership established in 1982, built on mutual respect and shared priorities. Speaking at the UAE 54th National Day reception on Friday, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Ambassador Barry Faure, cited major UAE-supported initiatives in Seychelles, including new phases of the Orchid Estate Housing Project, the West Coast Road improvements, the planned holistic centre in English River, a sports complex in Anse Royale, a cath lab for Seychelles Hospital, and four rehabilitation centres.

He noted advancements in public service modernisation through the UAE Government Experience Exchange Programme, and described the Digital Learning Initiative in ten primary schools as ‘an important step toward our national goal of digitalisation’. With tourism links robust and a Seychellois community of around 4,000 residing in the UAE, Ambassador Faure reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to advancing cooperation in sustainable development, climate justice, and socio-economic progress for the benefit of both nations.

He also praised the UAE’s transition from a pearling and fishing economy to a modern, diversified nation driven by innovation and expertise, commending its growing global influence in diplomacy, conflict resolution, and humanitarian work. ‘Its commitment to renewable energy and global cooperation inspires nations such as Seychelles as we confront the realities of climate change,’ he said. The UAE chargé d’affaires, Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi, in turn, praised the growing ties between the two countries, noting that their relationship has developed into a solid strategic partnership that has brought significant benefits to the well-being of their people.
