VICTORIA, Seychelles — Two firefighters were transported to the Seychelles Hospital for medical attention due to excessive smoke exposure after they had battled a fire at the I-Manze Take-away and Restaurant in Mont Fleuri on Tuesday morning. According to a communiqué from the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA), they received a call at 9:07am that there was a fire at the I-Manze Take-away and Restaurant, located in Mont Fleuri.
Two fire tenders and water bowsers from the Victoria Fire Station were deployed to attend to the incident, with a total crew of eight firefighters. It took around three minutes to reach the scene. The communiqué added that upon arriving on the scene, it was noticed that the fire was well alight in the building, particularly in the kitchen area and the first floor of the building. After a quick assessment of the situation, the firefighters acted quickly and it took approximately 30 minutes to put the fire under control, and one hour and 30 minutes to completely extinguish it.
There were no casualties or injuries among the occupants of the premises, however, two firefighters were transported to the Seychelles Hospital for medical attention due to excessive smoke exposure. Although they were wearing their personal protective equipment including breathing apparatus, they were still affected. They were placed under observation and released before 7pm. The building, which is a ground plus one floor, is constructed particularly with timber and covered with corrugated iron sheets. The kitchen and first floor of the building have been completely damaged while the other part of the building was not affected by the effects of fire. Information gathered during the investigation shows that the cause of the fire is accidental.
