VICTORIA, Seychelles — Nathalia Laporte and Grace Morel are the grand winners of this year’s art talent quest held on Praslin last week. The event, which started last year, is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, with the aim of promoting arts in school and allowing students to showcase their artistic talent.
Held at the Oasis Hotel, Restaurant & Spa, Grand Anse Praslin on Friday, the art talent quest targeted secondary students from Praslin and La Digue. Two teams from three schools – Praslin secondary, La Digue school, and Vijay International School Praslin – took part in the activity. The teams had to choose a spot within the hotel’s compound to sketch and paint, in the space of five hours. Their paintings were displayed in the lobby where the judging took place, and the top three among the six artworks were chosen.
Among the criteria used were creativity, the way the young artists viewed the scenes at the hotel, and how they interpreted them in their artwork. Nathalia Laporte, who won first prize in last year’s event held at Paradise Sun Hotel along with her colleague Marquise Ally, this year partnered with Grace Morel to paint the view of the swimming pool and surrounding area. The Ministry of Education said the event aims to give inner-island students equal opportunity to develop their artistic skills and have their work recognised alongside peers from Mahé.
