The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Minister Barry Faure met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Solomon Islands, H.E Peter Shane Agovaka, in his capacity as Chair of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) on 20th November 2025 in Brussels. Minister Faure is currently in Brussels to attend the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial forum.
During the meeting the Chair outlined his key objectives which focus on revitalising the OACPS and advancing the implementation of the SAMOA Agreement. The Solomon Islands’ Minister highlighted the importance of engaging with international partners recognizing that strategic collaboration is essential to support the work of the OACPS.
Minister Faure reaffirmed Seychelles’ support for the Chair’s vision and underscored Seychelles’ commitment to contributing actively to the collective work of the OACPS. The two Ministers also discussed opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation between Seychelles and the Solomon Islands and reflected on matters concerning Small Island Developing States.
Following this meeting, Minister Barry Faure met with the Secretary General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Mr Moosa Saleh Batraki.
During the meeting the Secretary General reflected on the current state of affairs and the overall condition of the Organisation including the challenges that are constraining its progress.
The Minister and the Secretary General exchanged views on how the Organization should be positioned moving forward emphasizing the importance of taking strategic decisions to ensure a forward-looking approach that best situates the OACPS within the evolving global landscape. The Minister expressed strong support for efforts to reposition the OACPS.
Minister Barry Faure also met with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms Kaja Kallas.
The discussion focused mainly on maritime security. Minister Faure used the opportunity to reflect on pressing challenges related to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing as well as the trafficking of narcotics and piracy. The meeting also reflected on the merits of Operation Atalanta and its ongoing contribution to regional maritime security. The meeting also reflected the parties’ continued commitment to the ongoing processes related to the Economic Partnership Agreement.
Minister Faure was accompanied by Ambassador Kenneth Racombo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Seychelles to the Kingdom of Belgium.
