VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister Wallace Cosgrow was sworn in as Principal Minister on Wednesday following his approval by the National Assembly on November 14, 2025. The swearing-in ceremony took place during a short ceremony held at State House. During the ceremony, Principal Minister Cosgrow took three oaths before President Patrick Herminie: the oath of allegiance to the Constitution, the official oath, and the oath of secrecy.
The ceremony was attended by Vice-President Sebastien Pillay and the Cabinet of Ministers. Principal Minister Cosgrow also holds the portfolio of Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy. The role of Principal Minister, formerly known as Designated Minister, was renamed through an amendment by the seventh cohort of the National Assembly.
The swearing-in marked the final step in formalising Mr Cosgrow’s new designation, following his nomination by President Herminie and the subsequent approval motion in the National Assembly. The motion was tabled by the leader of government business, Sylvanne Lemiel, and seconded by Churchill Gill, and was approved by 18 members of the United Seychelles caucus, with 14 members of the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa caucus abstaining. In his new role, Mr Cosgrow is expected to support the President in coordinating government business and overseeing the implementation of the administration’s priorities over the next five years.
