Road Safety Week 2025 Calls for Collective Action to Reduce Risks

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Road Safety Week 2025 was launched on Monday morning at the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation headquarters on Latanier Road, under the theme ‘Make walking, cycling and riding safe again’. The theme calls attention to the importance of creating safer spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, and riders, and encourages collective action to reduce risks on the road.

When officially launching the week, the Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Veronique Laporte, reflected on the theme, saying it was not just a message but a call to every one to make ‘our roads safer’ and to take personal responsibility for protecting life, whether walking, cycling, riding, or driving. She noted that the safety of vulnerable road users remains a national concern, and called for stronger enforcement, better infrastructure, and more respectful behaviour on the roads.

During the week, a series of activities is being organised across Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue to raise awareness of road safety rules and the consequences of risky behaviour. These include school visits, community outreach events, and visibility campaigns targeting drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. The minister urged all road users to play their part during the week and beyond, noting that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of every Seychellois.
