Seychelles to Host 2nd Regional Early Childhood Workshop Next Week

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD) in Seychelles, a Category 2 Institute under the auspices of UNESCO, is set to host the second regional workshop on ‘Progress and Way Forward on the Tashkent Declaration and Commitments to Action for Transforming Early Childhood Care and Education’. The workshop will take place from Tuesday, November 18 to 21, 2025.

The announcement was made on Friday during a press conference held at the IECD headquarters in Ile Perseverance. The workshop will bring together regional partners, ministry officials, and early childhood practitioners to review progress on the Tashkent Declaration and to set out the way forward for transforming early childhood care and education across the region. Discussions will focus on policy, training, and inclusive practices that support the holistic development of young children.

IECD officials noted that the workshop reflects Seychelles’ growing role in the regional and global early childhood agenda. As a UNESCO Category 2 Institute, IECD has been mandated to support member states in strengthening their early childhood systems through capacity building, research, and policy advice. The four-day workshop is expected to produce a set of recommendations and a roadmap that will guide countries in implementing their commitments under the Tashkent Declaration over the coming years, with a focus on equity, quality, and access for all children.
