Urgent Rock Stabilisation Works Underway in Pointe Conan

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Disaster Risk Management Division has announced the commencement of urgent stabilisation works in Pointe Conan, Anse Etoile, one of the priority areas identified under the ongoing Saint Louis hill stabilisation project. The project officially began on Monday, starting with cleaning and clearing work beneath a large rock formation that poses a potential risk to nearby residents. The work is expected to last for a period of five days, weather permitting.

During an on-site interview, the division’s senior risk management officer, Jade Landry, explained that the area had previously experienced an incident on the same property where the rock is located. This earlier occurrence prompted the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRM) to conduct a detailed investigation, and the latest intervention is a follow-up to those findings. The team is prioritising the removal of loose material and stabilisation of the rock face to reduce any further risk to surrounding homes.

Officials noted that the work forms part of a broader national effort to address hillside and rockfall hazards in vulnerable areas. Similar stabilisation projects have been carried out in other districts, including parts of Bel Air and Saint Louis, in recent years. The DRM is also expected to issue advice to residents in adjacent properties to remain vigilant and to report any new signs of movement or cracks to the authorities.
