VICTORIA, Seychelles — Marie Esther was honoured on Thursday as the longest serving teacher in Seychelles, with 46 years of service, at a Teacher’s Award Ceremony held at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort and Casino to mark the 35th celebration of Teacher’s Week.
Organised by the Ministry of Education, the ceremony recognised the dedication and commitment of teachers who have served for 25 years, as well as medically boarded teachers, retired teachers, and head teachers. The evening formed part of the broader programme of activities for Teacher’s Week 2025, which runs from October 1 to 11.
Mrs Esther, who began her teaching career in 1979, said she was grateful for the recognition after almost five decades of service to the country’s children. The award reflects the central role that long-serving educators have played in shaping generations of Seychellois.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Education Dr Justin Valentin commended the resilience of teachers and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the profession. The celebration also featured a cake-cutting ceremony, performances by teachers, and the recognition of 10 graduate teachers who received the President’s Award and SITE Awards between 2020 and 2025.
