Seychelles Joins 2nd Africa-Caribbean Community Summit in Addis Ababa

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles joined other African and Caribbean leaders at the 2nd Africa-Caribbean Community (Caricom) Summit held on September 7, 2025 at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting took place under the theme ‘Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations’.

President Wavel Ramkalawan was represented at the summit by Ambassador Conrad Mederic, permanent representative of Seychelles to the African Union. The summit was organised in line with the commitments made by the prime ministers of Ethiopia and Barbados in the margins of the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in February 2025. It provided a platform for African and Caribbean states to deepen cooperation on reparatory justice, cultural exchange and trade, and to coordinate positions ahead of major international negotiations.

Discussions also covered the role of the African diaspora in sustainable development, the protection of cultural heritage, and mechanisms to support reparatory claims through international and regional legal frameworks. The summit concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration reaffirming the commitment of African and Caribbean states to work together on shared priorities, including climate resilience, blue economy development and education exchanges. The next edition of the summit is expected to take place in 2026.
