Italian Ambassador Natali Bids Farewell After Two-Year Tenure

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The outgoing Italian ambassador to Seychelles, Roberto Natali, paid his final visit to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning after completing his two-year term. In a statement to the press, Mr Natali said his partnership and collaboration with Seychelles had been outstanding, resulting in the successful implementation of various strategies. ‘In particular, we have had the opportunity to exchange information and collaborate with our police sector, as well as conduct various training courses for the officers,’ he said.

Ambassador Natali said that, despite being stationed in Nairobi, Kenya, he had remained informed about political developments in Seychelles to keep Rome adequately updated. ‘The objective was to stay informed about Seychelles so that we could continuously seek ways to enhance our cooperation,’ he said, adding that the partnership had significantly improved. Mr Natali indicated that Seychelles is his final posting and that he will soon be retiring. ‘My intention now is to return to Seychelles after my retirement and explore the country as a tourist,’ he remarked.

On Monday, as part of his farewell visit, Ambassador Natali called on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. Both parties highlighted the strong bilateral cooperation between Seychelles and Italy, including Italy’s support in maritime security through the EU-NAVFOR Operation Atalanta, capacity building for Seychellois diplomats and law enforcement officers, and collaboration on climate change and environmental resilience. Minister Radegonde expressed appreciation for Ambassador Natali’s contributions and Italy’s continued support in advancing Seychelles’ development priorities. Italy and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on June 29, 1976.
