VICTORIA, Seychelles — To mark Prison Week, the Seychelles Prison Service held a ceremony yesterday to acknowledge several officers for their essential contributions to prison service and public safety. The event at the Seychelles Police Academy in Pointe Larue was attended by Internal Affairs Minister Errol Fonseka, Minister for Employment and Social Affairs Patricia Francourt, Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment Flavien Joubert, Chief of Defence Forces Major General Michael Rosette, and Commissioner of Prison Service Janet Georges.
This year’s theme is ‘It is in our hands’. At yesterday’s ceremony, the SPS honoured 19 officers who were promoted to higher ranks, including Inspector Luciana Riaze and Inspector Ivan Nicholas, Sub Inspectors Datna Marie, Vicky Rose, and Jenna Finesse, Sergeants Tony-Joe Juliette, Juliana Camille, and James Samson, and Corporals Andre Vital, Jane Zialor, Fiona Souris, Wilna Laurette, Lyda Aglae, Aubrey Zoe, Brenda Kayi, Vanessa Louis, Merna Valmont, Roy Kotechia, and Jerry Bibi.
Awards were also presented for outstanding performers in academic and physical training. The best performer in Academic Achievement was Inspector Peggy Labiche, followed by Inspector Ivan Nicholas, Inspector Vicky Rose, Corporal Micael David, and Corporal Jerry Bibi. The best performer in drill training was Corporal Aubrey Zoe, while the best performer in practical training was Sergeant Tony-Joe Juliette. The overall best performer and recipient of the Commissioner’s Cup was Inspector Ivan Nicholas. A total of 75 prison officers also received certificates of appreciation for outstanding contributions to Operational Searches and Recapture Operations, while 15 officers received certificates of recognition for consistently exceeding their job responsibilities. The ceremony also featured a parade by SPS cadets and the unveiling of portraits honouring two former Superintendents of Prisons, Benediste Hoareau and Maxime Tirant.
