VICTORIA, Seychelles — The AMSA group has donated several items to the Seychelles Police department, including 10 units of 43-inch smart televisions, 10 microwave ovens and five wheelchairs. This was during a courtesy call the president of AMSA group, Abdulla Ajmal, paid on the Commissioner of Police, Ted Barbe, yesterday morning at the police headquarters, Central Police Station. Mr Ajmal was accompanied by the chief executive of AMSA, Kuldeep Singh.
Speaking to the local media, Mr Ajmal said his organisation wanted to enhance the officers’ comfort, considering they work long hours, and showed their appreciation for their contribution to society. ‘AMSA hopes and will like to do a lot more initiatives to help the community and work with the government,’ he stated. In his address, Commissioner Barbe expressed his gratitude, stating the event was not just about receiving a donation but also about celebrating a remarkable partnership that continues to grow stronger and more meaningful each year. He noted that it includes various joint initiatives that have positively impacted officers’ well-being.
The Commissioner of Police recalled AMSA’s presence during Police Day and their support in Sports Day activities that promoted camaraderie, wellness and team spirit, as well as their contributions to health campaigns such as the Healthy Kidney Campaign, the Obesity Campaign and most recently a campaign focusing on prostate health for officers aged 50 and above. He noted that the donation would enhance the comfort of officers working long hours away from their families, while the wheelchairs would ensure inclusivity and support for those with mobility challenges. ‘Having a television will help the officers to stay up-to-date with the news and will also be used for training purposes, and the wheelchair will benefit officers if ever something goes wrong. We also have a staff welfare unit that caters for retired officers,’ he added. In addition to this gesture, the AMSA group organised a blood donation camp at the blood transfusion department of the Seychelles Hospital, in which members of the Seychelles Police force also participated.
